Old website moved to magnet.diskobox.net

This blog is an archive of the news section of my old Even Johansen fansite, evenmagnet.net / home of magnet. That website is now archived at magnet.diskobox.net. After owning the domain name evenmagnet.net for 15 years (!!!), I realized there wasn't much point in keeping a domain name for a website I no longer updated. If you're looking for updated information about Even Johansen, I'm sorry I can't still be a resource for you, but I hope you enjoy my old website. Thanks for visiting!

Free Magnet Concert in Bergen This Friday, July 25

This year's annual Tall Ships Races 2014 is taking place in Bergen, Norway, from July 24 to 27. It is, as the name entails, a huge-ass festival dedicated to racing tall ships, among many other maritime-related activities.

But if you're like me, all you're looking at is the ginormous roster of musical performances by mostly Norwegian artists—and they're all free. Check out the full schedule here. Most notably, Magnet is performing on Friday, July 25, at 9 p.m. at the Fish Market stage.

(Note that Casiokids is also playing July 25 at 9 p.m. on a different stage. Decisions, decisions. I also recommend Razika, performing at 7 p.m. at the Fish Market stage.)

Check Facebook for Latest Updates; New Shirts

There isn't really any news to report on, but I wanted to remind y'all to check Magnet's official Facebook page for the latest updates. If anything is happening in Magnet-land, Facebook will say so. (Unlike this site, which will probably be perpetually outdated, but still cling on to life with wheezing gasps.)

Magnet's official site has been updated with a shop featuring new long-sleeve shirts decorated with a little flaming magnet logo. The shirts seem to optimized for invisible men who want to show off their muscle tone, but I'm guessing full-fleshed humans can wear 'em too. Each shirt is 250 NOK (about $43).

New Album Coming Out December 2

Magnet's new album, Ferrofluid, is coming out next Friday, December 2, in Norway. It's available for pre-order at cdon.no (Rest-of-Europe site: cdon.eu) on CD (149 kr) and vinyl (199 kr). Platekompaniet also lists a deluxe CD (299 kr) version. Here's the tracklisting:

  1. Doldrum Days

  2. Sister Sorrow

  3. Bad Blood

  4. Stay - with Hilde Marie Kjersem

  5. Homecoming Queen

  6. Fireflies

  7. Pussyfoot

  8. Nemesis

  9. Together

  10. Reprizer

You can listen to the album's first single, "Doldrum Days," on Myspace and Spotify (and buy it on iTunes). You can listen to the album's second single, "Stay" (a Shakespeare's Sister cover) on Soundcloud.

As for what the heck ferrofluid is, Wikipedia says it's "a liquid which becomes strongly magnetized in the presence of a magnetic field." It can do cool shizz like this.

There's a new official Magnet website in the works, finally! Still under construction, but here you go: magnetmusic.no. Also check out the official Facebook and Myspace pages for new stuff.

Performance at the World Ski Championship

Got some exciting news from Magnet's manager: GOOD STUFF IS HAPPENING.

More specifically, Magnet will be releasing new music soon! ...Okay, that's not very specific. More specific is that he'll be performing "The Day We Left Town" in University Square in Oslo as part of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championship this Thursday, the 24th. If you live in Norway you can watch it live on NRK2 at 19:00.

Magnet is doing stuff! Whoa!

After a few years of nothingness, I got a message from the folks of his management company BpopMentometer to say that Magnet is doing stuff! I mean, related to music. Presumably he's doing stuff all the time. Here's the message:

Magnet is currently in his studio in Bergen, where he is finishing his new record with a bunch of great Norwegian musicians. We have heard the first song, and really looking forward to the rest!

Even has spent the last year learning how to ride his horse, and feeding his goats. His growing commitment for a better environment has taken a lot of time, but he has also found the time to produce albums for several Norwegian artists, such as Lene Marlin and Amina. He has also found a lot of inspiration for his new album.

Stay tuned to soon get pictures from Magnet’s Devil-island, the studio, and of course: music.
